Chinese police have arbitrarily detained a young Tibetan mother for protesting peacefully with a portrait of the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama in her hand in Tibetan province of Amdo.

The woman has been identified as 22-year-old Wangmo from Village no. 3 of Meuruma (Ch: Mai’erma) Township located in Ngaba (Ch: Aba) County in Ngaba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province.

According to information received by TCHRD, on July 15 Wangmo walked up the main road of Meuruma town to protest repressive policies of the Chinese government. She was seen holding a portrait of the Dalai Lama. She was soon detained by the Ngaba County police and taken to an undisclosed location. There is no information on her whereabouts and condition.

Wangmo, daughter of Mr. Shechen and Mrs. Lagyal. is married to Mr. Tenzin of Sungdue Kyitsang family from Village no. 5. The couple has two children.
